Watsu

Bodywork in warm water; the spine remembers a different shape.

Watsu is a hydrotherapy session conducted in a warm dedicated pool. The guest is supported on the surface; the practitioner moves the body through slow stretches, held positions and rhythmic rocking. The water carries weight the spine ordinarily holds; the muscles release in a way they cannot release on a treatment table. The session sits inside Jayasom's family of water based therapies.

Description

What Watsu is

The pool is warmed close to body temperature so the boundary between water and skin softens. The guest wears swimwear and is supported by the practitioner throughout; the head stays above water. The session moves through a sequence of cradled positions, slow rotations and gentle stretches; the body is never asked to hold itself.

Watsu reaches places that land based bodywork cannot. The water removes the gravity load the spine carries every day. Guests with chronic back pain, post surgical guarding, fibromyalgia, or the kind of nervous system load where stillness feels harder than motion often find the session settles them where dry sessions do not. The work is small and constant, the kind that compounds across a year.

Most guests stop tracking time inside the first few minutes. The water is warm; the practitioner's hands stay steady; the rhythm is unhurried. Some guests fall briefly asleep mid-session; some cry quietly; some emerge talkative, some emerge silent. The body usually feels longer afterwards.

OUTCOMES

How the session works

Therapeutic Pillars: hydrotherapy, body-mind axis. The pool is dedicated to Watsu and other water based therapies including aquatic exercise and aqua biking; the temperature is held close to body warmth. The practitioner is trained in the Watsu lineage; the sequence is a calibrated practice, not improvised support.

AFTER THE SESSION
  • Spine and pelvis released in a way land sessions rarely reach
  • A nervous system that lands lower than usual
  • Sleep that goes deeper that night
  • Old guarding patterns released around prior injuries
  • A measured opening into the rest of the retreat programme

Who delivers the session

The Watsu practitioner is trained in lineage rather than a short course; the work is taught hand to hand. The same practitioner runs the wider hydrotherapy programme on-property, which means a guest who books Watsu will often see them again across aqua exercise or floatation work. The pool stays the practitioner's room throughout.

No. The practitioner supports you the whole session; the head stays above water; you do not propel yourself. Guests who do not swim regularly are usually surprised by how easy the session feels.

Yes, with adaptations; brief at the Wellness Advisor read so the practitioner can adjust the sequence. The water support is often welcome where land bodywork has become uncomfortable.

The Watsu pool is offered for adults and families; sessions for younger guests are paced and adapted by the practitioner. The Wellness Advisor will route by age and brief.

Paired Watsu sessions run for couples; one partner floats supported while the practitioner cradles the other, then the roles swap. Plan with the Wellness Advisor ahead of arrival.
